Our Story

The Selkirk Geospatial Research Centre (SGRC) was founded at Selkirk College in 2003 with grants from federal and provincial agencies, along with support from local communities and businesses. Through partnerships with non profit organizations, businesses and industries, we assist to create Geospatial based solutions in the region. The SGRC facilitates research, develops new technology applications and provides customized training. Staff and resources are shared with Selkirk College's Advanced Diploma and Bachelor GIS degree programs. The SGRC also provides customized training solutions.

Through the years we have grown into new areas of geospatial science and research. We now focus on internet mapping, non-profit organisation support and are working to bring UAV infrastructure and support to the Kootenays.

The SGRC has been recognized as a leader in Geospatial Sciences. In 2012 and 2006, the Kootenay Association for Science & Technology (KAST) recognised the SGRC as the leading innovative organisation within the region. As well, the SGRC was recognised by Esri Canada in 2006, receiving their Award of Excellence.
