Open Data Webinar

By Justin Robinson on 2017-09-06 21:10

What is open data? Why is it important to economic development? How can local government work collaboratively to make their data open? What are the challenges and opportunities for open data in the Basin-Boundary region?

The Columbia Basin Rural Development Institute (RDI) and Selkirk Geospatial Research Centre (SGRC) at Selkirk College are partnering to deliver a webinar on open data, local government and economic development in the region. This webinar will include a presentation from Ian Parfitt, coordinator of the Selkirk Geospatial Research Centre and Principal Investigator on the federally funded research project entitled Open Data for Open Government in Rural BC. Tom Dool of the Regional District of Central Kootenay will discuss challenges and opportunities to making data open in a rural context from the perspective of local government. The webinar will then turn attention to an open data opportunity that could leverage the assets of the Kootenay Real Estate Board, the SRGC, RDI, local governments and economic development community to support evidence-based decision making and stimulate economic development. A representative from the Kootenay Real Estate Board will provide an overview. ####
